Empowering Farmers with Modern Solutions
In a significant milestone for the Somali region’s agricultural sector, Agro-COM Farming Technology Cooperative successfully led the first government-supported rice production project. From May to June 2024, Agro-COM deployed over 20 tractors in the Shabelle zone, cultivating 421 hectares of land across Adadle, Bercano, and Gode woredas. The project provided expert land preparation services and offered consultancy support to local farmers, marking a pivotal step towards improving food security in the region.
This initiative not only introduced modern mechanization to rice farming but also created employment opportunities for over 30 tractor drivers, directly benefiting the local community. Agro-COM’s leadership in this project exemplifies its commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape in the Somali region, making rice cultivation a viable and profitable venture for small-scale farmers.
